Attach Files with your Articles in Joomla 1.5

Tagged Under : ,

The ‘Attachments’ extension for Joomla! allows files to be uploaded and attached to content articles. ‘Attachments’ includes a plugin to display attachments at the end of articles and a component for uploading and managing attachments. There are options to control who can see the attachments and who can upload them, along with many other options to increase its flexibility and usefulness. To install ‘Attachments’, unzip the download file and install the two plugins and the component.

Release 1.3.4 fixes problems with “Add Attachments” links and buttons displaying on pages generated by other extensions (such as JEvents). Release 1.3.3 includes a new search plugin (thanks to Paul McDermott!), a few improvements, and a several bug fixes. It also fixes a long-standing installation problem on hosting systems with versions of MySQL older than 4.1 (that did not directly support UTF-8). Attachments release 1.3.4 has been tested with Joomla! 1.5.6. An upgrade patch is available to upgrade from Attachments 1.3.3 to 1.3.4. (Note that an early version of this upgrade patch had problems; a new version has been posted.)

Other features include optional secure attachment file storage and downloading, options to control the display of the attachment descriptions, file sizes, and modifications dates. Three user-defined fields are available. Attachments can be completely managed through the component manager in the administrative back end. The ‘add attachments button’ plugin adds a button at the bottom of the article editor to simplify adding attachments while editing articles. The search plugin enables searching attachment filenames and descriptions.
