With Recent 2G Scams and high spectrum cost, telecom industry in india has saturated, the new entrants like Aircel, Videocon, Uninor, Etisalat have already stopped their operation in many circles, while big players like – Airtel, Reliance, Tata, Vodafone are hurdling to recover the operational cost. Although it is sure now that the telecom industry will be ruled again by big player as there is no hope for ROI for new entrants until some industry favored Government rules and certain leverages are defined.
[Update] Although telecom sector in 2011 was facing several hiccups of 2G Scam, Spectrum distribution and all. Mobile subscribers count has grown with 190 million subscribers for 2011.
Reports says that India is going to beat china interms of telecom penetration by year 2013 and teledensity is expected to reach 75%, becoming world’s largest telecommunication market.
The indian telecom sector is growing fast,the growth of telecom sector in india is really astonishing, in 1947,when india attained independence,it had less than 80,000 telephone connections. in the next 35 years the country could add only two millions connections, if we talk about at present scenario,the telecom sector is adding 10 millions subscribers roughly each month. if we talk about teledensity(telephone penetration per 100 persons) as of today then it has reached to near about 65%.

In the year 2010, telecom sector has added a total of 38 millions landline subscribers while cell phone subscribers increased to 220 millions,of which top 10 telecom operators customer/subscriber base of the year 2010 are hierarchically mentioned below -
Bharti Airtel is at number 1 position with , 142 millions subscriber base with the year end. Airtel is known for its performance, Customer support and wide range of Value added services. With growing subscriber base and tariff war, airtel is the only company going to survive in coming future. The customer policy is really great and network uptime cannot be questioned.
Relaince Communication is at number 2 with a total subscriber base of 115 millions. Reliance is known for its amazing offers that comes in affordable and dirty cheap price, if you remember the time, it was the only company to bring the mobile revolution in india.
Vodafone Essar is at number 3rd position with total subscriber base of 113 Millions. Vodafone has good and stable network coverage, while the data services are increasingly popular, with global and pan India presence, Vodafone is one such company on which you can rely.
Tata Tele Services is at number 4th postion with total subscriber base of 80 millions. Tata being one of the oldest player in telecom segment has different kind of services to offer, the tariff plans lie within budget of every user, no hidden costs for anything, decent customer service.
Idea Cellular is at number 5th position with total subscriber base of 72 millions. Idea Cellular is one such company which has always catered the customer’s requirement, the packages and plans are according to what customer demand, while data and 3G plans are getting good response from the market.
BSNL is at number 6th position with total subscriber base of 75 millions. BSNL is again getting back to the track, seeing the huge competition in the segment, BSNL deployed certain policies to cater the needs of consumers which has proved it worth.

MTS – 5 millions subscribers.
MTNL - 6 millions subscribers.
